The Worlds We Create is a conceptual portrait series in which figures are accompanied by expansive cosmos imagery representing the “worlds” constructed within the mind. The work examines how thoughts, beliefs, and internal narratives shape personal reality, highlighting both the visionary potential of the human imagination and its capacity to distort, limit, or liberate. The series invites viewers to consider how the realities they inhabit are, in part, self-authored.

This series serves as an invitation to acknowledge the power our minds hold in interpreting our experiences and crafting the realities we encounter. While external forces may often lie beyond our control, we possess the ability to shape our inner worlds and, ultimately, the lives we live.

Through this series, Nicole Shannon asks, “What are the stories you tell yourself about your circumstances and your capability? Are they empowering and growth promoting or disparaging and self-limiting? What kind of world are you creating for yourself through your thoughts?”
